In an attempt to encourage the theatre arts, the Paruchuri Raghubabu Memorial Trust is organising the 18th All-India Theatre Festival from 27th April to 1st May, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. 21 Telugu plays from all over the country will be staged during the 5-day festival, as under:
27th April

At 8pm on May 1, comedian Dr. Brahmanandam will be felicitated on the occasion of entering the Guinness Book Of World Records for acting in the highest number of movies. The guests for the evening comprise a galaxy of film stars, such as Babu Mohan, AVS, M S Narayana, Tanikella Bharani, Mallikarjuna Rao, L B Sriram, Krishna Bhagwan, Shivaji Raja, Sunil, Venu Madhav, Raghubabu, Ganesh, Uttej, Kondavalasa, Shiva Reddy and Gundu Hanumantha Rao.
Participation cash prizes will be given at Rs. 6,000 for a play and Rs. 5,000 for a playlet. In addition, cash awards will be given for the 1st and 2nd best plays, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd for best playlets and the 1st and 2nd best actor, best actress, best comedian, best character actor and actress, and best supporting actor and actress. There will also be two special jury awards for best script, best direction, best stage set arrangement, best music and best make-up.
In memory of his late son Paruchuri Raghubabu, cine actor and writer Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao established the Paruchuri Raghubabu Memorial Trust in 1990, and organises theatre competitions every year. The trust promotes theatre by giving monetary aid to ailing groups.
