Tadka, the multi-cuisine restaurant of Ohri's Banjara, is organising a Punjabi Food Festival, from 26th April to 4th May. Celebrity Chef from Delhi Sweety Singh has been specially flown in to prepare authentic dishes of Punjab.
Sweety Singh aka Harjinder Singh got acquainted with the Punjabi food business as his father S Gyani Santhok Singh used to run a roadside dhaba at Asaf Ali Road, New Delhi. Years later, Sweety Singh established a 25-seater dhaba, "Kake Di Hatti", on the same road, and also continued the business started by his father. All this without any formal training in cooking.
He has been part of many food festivals that have become a rage among food lovers, including at the ITC Sheraton, Chennai, in 1998 and again in 1999, and at the ITC Kakatiya in Hyderabad twice in 1999 and once in 2000.
The buffet costs Rs. 245 for lunch and Rs. 295 for dinner (taxes extra), and includes a welcome drink, 5 pickles, two types of shorba, 3 salads, 3 non-veg and 6 veg curries, 3 types of breads, 2 dals, 1 non-veg biryani, 2 veg rice, 1 hot and 1 cold desserts, and a live counter of kulfi and falooda.
The menu changes everyday, and some of the dishes are Special Punjabi Meat, Saag Meat, Patiala Shahi Murg, Dhaba Butter Chicken, Afghani Chicken, Sarso Da Saag, Makki Di Roti, Pindi Chole, Kadee Pakoda, Aloo Wadiyan, Gobi Masala, Palak Gobi, Baingan Da Bharta, Baingan Masala, Amritsari Fish Curry, Amritsari Machlee Fry, Aloo Kulcha, Lachaa Parantha, Onion Kulcha, Mutter Paneer, Shahi Paneer and Paneer Lababdaar. For the desserts, there are Punjabi Kheer, Gulab Jamun, Malpua, Moong Dal Da Halwa, Gajar Halwa, Matka Kulfi and Dabba Kulfi.
