Shrishti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of paintings by P S Govinda Rao, from 21st April to 5th May, at the gallery's premises on Road No. 11, Jubilee Hills. The exhibition has been titled Kamala The Lotus - A Journey Of Exploration In Images, and contains about 35 latest works of the artist.
The majority of Govind Rao's works are on women, be it Sita, Yashoda, Radha or the domestic lady. He takes the viewer into Indian life without any abstraction or romanticism. It's not just the socialite but also the simple rustic beauty and charm that come alive in his canvas.
P S Govind Rao is a Chennai-based versatile artist, architect, musician and horticulturist. He is a talented sitar player and a bonsai expert. His garden of bonsais nurtured for more than 40 years is unbelievable in its beauty and form. He is also a senior architect known for his unique style and elegant buildings. He has pioneered and designed most of the leading hospitals of the South India, such the Apollo Hospitals, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital, Madras Medical Mission, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences and the Frontier Lifeline's International Centre For Cardio Thoracic And Vascular Diseases, Chennai.
As an artist, he has been painting since 1950, and has evolved from a West-oriented art of landscapes and stylized human forms, to the infinite variety and richness of Indian art. He likes to work in many media, be it sketches, pastels, acrylics, paper, water colors or mixed media.
