A Masters in Science with Botany as his specialization subject, Rudrapatnam S Ramakanth is a lecturer teaching in a university at Bangalore. Strictly academically speaking, that is. He is also a renowned vocalist, and to substantiate that statement, he was adjudged as the best "Raga Alapana" (octaves) singer and has been honored with the Sri Paada Pinakapani award.
R S Ramakanth is the disciple of R K Srikanthan, a renowned guru who has been honored with the title Sangeetha Kalanidhi for his persistent work and caliber in the field of music. A graded artist of Doordarshan and the All India Radio, Ramakanth has featured in the 'Radio Sangeeth Sammelan' programs on the national network. He is more famous for the 'performing' and the 'reading' sabhas.
R S Ramakanth is one of the leading vocalists of the younger generation, and is striving hard to create awareness of classical music and its importance in our society. Today's performance has Dwaram Satyanarayana on the violin, D S R Murthy on the mridangam and N Somayajulu on the ghatam.
