Those who gave us the palaces also pampered our palates. No wonder that the Taj Mahal and the biryani have a common prefix - Mughlai. Back home, in the culinary Mecca itself, a vernacular decides to have a demo of the culture left by the Nizams, the Nawabs et al. Some food for thought, that.
Siyasat, the daily newspaper in Urdu, along with the ITC Kakatiya Sheraton, is organizing a cookery demonstration-cum-competition program at the exhibition grounds. Siyasat had organized a similar event earlier in which 300 candidates had participated and demonstrated their culinary skills, and the program was a huge success.
On the inaugural day, i.e. the 16th, the executive chef of the ITC Kakatiya Sheraton, O P Khantawal, demonstrated his culinary skills in front of a 1,200 strong gathering of women candidates, who keenly watched his demonstration. Khantawal demonstrated the preparation of baked whole fish, stuffed crepe, trio vegetable, lasagna, Lancashire hot pot, chicken tikka burger and chicken ballotine. He will teach a few techniques on how to prepare biryanis, Peshawari foods, salads and desserts in the coming days.
A competition will be held on the last day for trainees in which certificates and recipe books will be given to the winners in the competition.
Those interested in the demonstration can contact Shalimar Garden Function Hall at Nampally.
