On the occasion of their annual day Shiznay '08, the kids of TKR College Of Engineering & Technology in Meerpet are getting the ultimate Indian rock band - Parikrama. The celebrations start at 10am in the morning, with about eight rockbands from various colleges of Hyderabad participating in the rock fest. This will be followed by a 1-hour electronic curtain raiser on Parikrama at 6pm, and the rock performance. In between, DJ Amit Saxena, one of the college goers' favorites, will spin hot Bollywood tracks, hard rock and hip-hop.
Parikrama is a rock-and-roll band formed during 1991, and has more than 230 concerts and 1,000+ performances to its name, held all over India in more than 40 cities. They have also participated in various international competitions held in India and abroad.
The band often fuses Indian classical music instruments like the mridangam, tabla and flute with conventional instruments like the guitar, drums and keyboards. They have been inspired and influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix, Allman Brothers and The Doors.
The members of this big band are Nitin Malik on the lead vocals, Sonam Sherpa for the lead guitars, Saurabh Choudhary on the guitar, Subir Malik on the keyboards and synthesizers, Chintan Kalra on the bass guitar and with backing vocals, Dilip Gururaj Ramchandran on the drums, Shambu Nath on the tabla, mridangam and percussions, Imran Khan on the violin and Rajat Kakkar on the percussion.
The entry to the morning rock fest is free, but entry tickets are applicable for the evening concert, priced at Rs. 200 per head and available at Caf
