Shilparamam, as part of its weekly program of classical dance, is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital by M V S Rashmi Anjani from Guntur, on 23rd September. Starting the recital with a Purandaradasa keertana, Gajavadana Bedure, Rashmi will proceed towards Pushpanjali - Jayamu Jayamu Lalitha Kala Vahini; Annamacharya's Kulukaga Nadavaro Kommallara; a Tarangam - Neela Megha Shareera; Mahishasura Mardhini; and a Tillana in Mohana Kalyani ragam.
The orchestra ensemble for the recital is Guru Mahankali Suryanarayana Sarma with the nattuvangam, Durga with the vocals, V K Sastry on the mridangam and Saidulu on the violin.
Mahankali Venkata Satya Rashmi Anjani was born into a family of traditional dancers from Kuchipudi - her mother was from the Bhagavathula Ramakotaiah clan and her father Mahankali Suryanarayana was a disciple and relative of Vempati Chinnasatyam. Rashmi has been learning since the last 18 years from her father, from the age of 4.
Rashmi is an MCA graduate, and has given about 1,000 performances all over India, at Hyderabad, Delhi, Tirupathi, Amaravathi, Mysore, Nagpur, Chennai and Bangalore. Recently, she has won the 1st prize at the All-India Inter-College Dance Competitions. She practices regularly at Tirumala Arts Academy, established by her father in 1975.
