Lakshana Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of paintings by D Manmohan, from 21st to 29th September. Titled Memories Down The Lane, these acrylic and oil paints, egg tempera and water color paintings on canvas and paper depict the lifestyles of the rural Telangana men and women.
Manmohan is a senior artist brought up in the Telangana area of Andhra Pradesh, and has tried to paint his childhood memories and his frequent visits to the countryside areas of Karimnagar, Nagarjunasagar and Nizamsagar. His frequent observation of and involvement with the people of these rustic villages inspired him to do the works in his first solo exhibition here.
In each of his paintings, whether it be a woman sitting with a goat, or a man with a cock or grazing goats, or women engaged in some gossip, the backgrounds have the 19th century hard-wood doors or the red-thatched houses. The men and women are strongly built and well-dressed in the typical Telangana style.
