Khurja Pottery Exhibition: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR KHURJA POTTERY EXHIBITION

Lepakshi, the handicrafts showroom at RTC X Roads, is organising an exhibition of Khurja Pottery, from 15th to 30th September. This pottery items are unique in the sense that they look like cutlery and are very colorful.

The exhibition has on display, various everyday-use items like cups and saucers, mugs in twisted shapes, terracotta-colored tea sets, dinner sets, soup bowls, jugs, glasses, mugs, kettles, decorative table tops, ashtrays, napkin holders, flower pots, pen stands, paper weights, and pickle and cookie containers, in eye-catching modern-art-ish colors and patterns. The rates too are reasonable, considering the artwork, design and the subsequent hardwork that goes into making these pottery items.

Khurja is 100km from Delhi, in Uttar Pradesh. It is a center famous for its pottery tradition. The potter of this area has evolved a style of his own. This pottery is relatively new in comparision with other trends. The potter mixes the powders of felspar and quartz rocks to the clay, which gives a ceramic finish to the product. Then a coat of fine harmonious blends of colors makes the pottery pleasing to the eye.
