Carnatic Vocal By Soumya Srinivas: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR CARNATIC VOCAL BY SOUMYA...

As part of its monthly music programs, the Hyderabad Music Circle is presenting a Carnatic vocal recital by Soumya Srinivas, on 8th December, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally. Soumya will be accompanied on the violin by Peri Thyagaraju and on the mridangam by Vidyasagar.

Somya learnt music initially from Shankara Shivam of Madurai, and is a Bachelor of Music from the Sadguru Sangeeta Samajam in Madurai. Currently she is learning under D Seshachary, one of the famed Hyderabad Brothers. A talented vocalist, she has won several awards as a student, including the Tambura prize and a gold medal. She has performed for various organisations like Kalasagaram, and for the Skandagiri Temple for the navaratri festivals.

The Hyderabad Music Circle is an active music-promoting cultural organisation, started in December 2005 and headed by some highly-talented musicians like the Hyderabad Brothers D Raghava Chary & D Seshachary (no less!), N Ch Parthasarathy and Y Ramaprabha. The organisation encourages upcoming artistes to participate in its monthly concerts (organised every 2nd Saturday), thereby creating a platform from where they can showcase their talents to music lovers.
