Shilparamam, as part of its weekend program of music and dance, is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital by Harini, Yashmita Reddy, Eshwari Vaishnavi and Deeksha, on 20th April. The dancers are all disciples of M Surya Prakash.
The evening starts with a recital of Vinayaka Koutvam in Naata ragam and adi talam, followed by Annamacharya's Alarulu Kuriya in Shankarabharana ragam and Adigo Alladigo in Madhyamavati ragam, Manasa Sancharare in Saama ragam, Tillana in Hindola ragam, Tarangam in Mohana ragam and finally a Krishna Shabdam - Ra Ra Naa Swamy Ra Ra.
The orchestra for the recital will have M Surya Prakash and Pasumarthi Sai Deepika with the nattuvangam and vocal respectively, Susarla Sarma on the mridangam, Anil on the violin and Venkatesh on the flute.
M Surya Prakash has learned both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, under various gurus such as Sumathi Kaushal, Ranganadha Pillai, Yeleswarapu Surya Prakash Sarma and Pasumarthi Seshubabu. He did his diploma in Kuchipudi from the Telugu University, Hyderabad, in 1984. He has performed at several venues across the country, and was given the title of Bala Keerthi by the Andhra Balananda Sangham in 1971, and of Nritya Tara by Pasumarthi Venu Gopalakrishna Sarma at the Kuchipudi Kalakshetra.
Currently, Surya Prakash teaches Kuchipudi to about 40 students at his dance institute Himagiri Kuchipudi Nritya Academy, which has branches at Dilsukhnagar and Malakpet. He served as a dance teacher for six years at Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, from 1987 to 1994.
