The annual Golconda Culture Festival, a grand celebration of music, dance & history organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, is on from 18th to 20th April this year, at the Taramati Baradari Cultural Complex, Gandipet Road, Ibrahimbagh. Today, the final day of the festival, ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas will be performing.
Udhas has an enormous fan following in the twin cities, and holds a special place in the heart of discerning music lovers. He has rendered playback for many Bollywood films since the early 1970s, but his claim to fame was Naam (1986), for the ghazal Chitti Aayi Hai, which made him a household name.
He recorded several albums and toured the world as an accomplished ghazal singer. He has also composed music for many films, and performed as a playback singer for others. He received the Padmasri, the 4th highest civilian award of the Government of India, in 2006.
