The Sita Rama Naama Sankeetana Sangham is organising a Bharatanatyam dance drama called Bhakta Ramadas on 13th April at the Lord Balaji Temple, Alwal. Disciples of V S Ramamurthy will be performing the drama, which is based on the life history of Bhakta Ramadas. Nearly 40 of his disciples are participating in this dance drama.
The recital will start with the birth of Ramadas, and will conclude with the release of Ramadas from King Tanisha's prison, with the blessings of Lord Rama. The recital will be accompanied by Manjula Ramaswamy and V S Ramamurthy on the nattuvangam, Prema Ramamurthy on the vocal, Raja Gopalachary on the mrudangam, Dattatreya on flute, Sai Kumar on violin and Srikanth with special effects.
Guru V S Ramamurthy is a qualified engineer, with an unquenchable passion for the performing arts. He perfected his skill in Bharatanatyam under the distinguished tutelage of his illustrious Guru Late Padmasri K N Dandayudha Pani Pillai. He has also been trained by the famed Mylapore Gowri Ammal in Abhinaya.
Ramamurthy is immensely popular as Sivakami Ramamurthy for his unparalleled rendition of the title role of Sivakami in Kalki's play, Sivakamiyin Sabadam. As founder of Sri Rama Nataka Niketan, he has moulded the careers of several young dancers.
The institution has produced several dance dramas like Godha Kalyanam, Mohini Bhasmasura, Seetha Kalyanam and Sarvam Krishnamayam Jagat. Ramamurthy has been conferred upon titles like Natya Sudhakara and Nritya Kalasagara by prestigious organizations, and appreciated and acclaimed all over India and abroad.
