There sure is a gap in the generations in this family, but it's one the dad would be mighty proud of. His sons didn't really live up to his aspirations that one day they would join him at the AIR, but the outcome wouldn't disappoint him - they've broadcast themselves to a much wider audience. The globe.
On the event of Dr. Vinjamuri Varadaraja Iyengar 10th memorial concerts being organized by the South Indian Cultural Association (SICA), the Malladi Brothers, Ram Prasad and Ravi Kumar, will present a vocal concert today.
The brothers had their initial training under their grandfather late Malladi Srirama Murthy, a renowned Harikatha exponent of his time in Andhra Pradesh. Later they trained under their father Malladi Suri Babu, who is currently with the All India Radio, Vijayawada. Both the brothers bagged National Awards from the AIR in the annual music competitions from 1989 to 1992 and also in 1994. They have a number of other awards to their credit, and have performed at various places in India and abroad. Many music companies have released their cassettes and CDs.
They will perform this evening accompanied by Peri Sreeramamurthy on the violin, P Satish Kumar on the mridangam, and Nemani Somayajulu on the ghatam. Entry to this program is by invitation for SICA members, and by tickets for non-members.
