Cimba looked cute singing how he just couldn't wait to be king, but for several other enthusiasts who can unfortunately never even hope to be one, this game is the closest shot. And here is a month-long tournament for all the young generals.
The YMCA (Secunderabad) is organizing the 19th Annual Open Chess Tournament 2001 starting on the 4th. The tournament was organized last month for under-14 boys and girls, and this time, for over a month, it will be conducted for under-19 boys & girls, college students (degree & PG), girls and women (open), and boys and men (open). The details are as under:
(1) Open chess tournament for boys & girls under 19 years
4th Aug to 11th Aug, 5.00pm
Last date for entries 3rd Aug 2001, entry fee Rs. 40
(2) Open chess tournament for college students
13th Aug to 20th Aug, 5.00pm
Last date for entries 11th Aug 2001, entry fee Rs. 50
(3) Open chess tournament for girls & women
21st Aug to 27th Aug, 5.00pm
Last date for entries 20th Aug 2001, entry fee Rs. 75
(4) Open chess tournament for boys & men
28th Aug to 8th Sep, 5.00pm
Last date for entries 27th Aug 2001, entry fee Rs. 100
This tournament will be conducted under the latest FIDE rules. Cash prizes will be awarded, in order of merit, to the players. All college students will have to produce their identity cards at the time of entry. Participants can bring their own chess sets and clocks, if they like. Spot entries will not be accepted.
