The annual Golconda Culture Festival, a grand celebration of music, dance & history, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, is on from 18th to 20th April this year, at the Taramati Baradari Cultural Complex, Gandipet Road, Ibrahimbagh. On the first day, Rahul Sharma will be performing some tracks from his album Maya The Illusion, on his santoor.
Maya The Illusion is a recently released instrumental album consisting of 10 tracks - Manifested Leela, Clairvoyance, Delusion, Permeability, Maya - The Illusion Featuring Sunidhi Chauhan, The Veil, Embodiment, Leela - Nature Of Supreme Consciousness, Maya - The Remix, and Maya Revisited.
Rahul Sharma is the son and musical disciple of santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, and from a family steeped in the tradition of Kashmir. He started learning from a very young age, and started accompanying his father in concerts in 1996, at the age of 24. Since then, Rahul has performed in North America and throughout Europe, and at various folk and world music festivals, including WOMAD.
He has collaborated with international musicians like pianist Richard Clayderman and keyboardist Kersi Lord, and came out with an album The Confluence (2002), which has mostly Indian titles - six of them were composed by Rahul himself. He provided the music for the Hindi feature film Mujhse Dosti Karoge, for which he received the Best Debut - Music Director award at the 2002 Zee Bollywood Music Awards.
