Meneka is the adopted child of Grace and Suriya Bandara, a wealthy aristocrat and leading human rights lawyer. Meneka, who runs a fashionable dress design centre, is engaged to a young bank official Kusal. Suddenly an unexpected event shatters her peaceful and complacent existence, when she discovers that she is an adopted child and that her real parents are living in a remote village in abject poverty.
She single-handedly embarks on this assiduous journey into the past. Finally she realizes that biological relationships are not the most important factor in one's life. It is personal relationships, ties between human beings and affection, that matter.
The film won the Best Director and Best Film awards at the Presidential awards 1999.
