Summer Utsav Mela: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR SUMMER UTSAV MELA

One of the biggest summer fairs for the Secunderabadis, the Summer Utsav Mela, is back again this year, at the Gymkhana grounds. This mini-fair attracts lots of weekend crowds every year from the cantonment, and is on from 10th May to 29th June this year.

This year, the organisers have set up about 50 stalls of toys, handicrafts, textiles, readymades, glassware, artificial jewelry, cosmetics and footwear. Even though a majority of sellers are local traders, some have come from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The terracota from UP and wooden handicrafts from Bihar sell like hot cakes.

Like every year, this year, too, there are lots of entertainment rides such as the giant wheels, roller-coaster rides, mini-trains, frisbees, pendulum rides and others which take care of not only the kids, but also the grown-ups and the older lot. There is no dearth of food either as fastfood joints have been set up serving piping hot mirchi bhajjis, vadas, paav bhajis, bondas and fried rice, besides ice-creams, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

The temperatures are soaring, and so remember to get here only during the cool evenings. Entry is by tickets of Rs. 10 per head, available at the venue. The gates are open from 4pm to 10pm only. Please contact the utsav office at 2790-5676 for further details.
