Some people live in a city. Here is the tale of a city that lived in a person. And when the person is Ustad Bismillah Khan, the city cannot but help feel flattered.
The Hyderabad Film Club, to pay tribute to the departed soul of Shehnai Legend Late Ustad Bismillah Khan, is screening a film Meeting A Milestone today.
The film explores the legendary classical musician Ustad Bismillah Khan in the backdrop of our ancient living city, Benaras. In a series of interviews given to the filmmaker, Ustadji spoke at length about his inspirations, his study of music, and, as always, in great reverence to the great gurus.
The city of Benaras has always got absorbed in his thought. He refused to leave the city even during his last days when he was quite sick and was asked to be shifted to AIIMS at Delhi. Finally he had to be admitted to a private hospital in Beneras, where he breathed his last.
His passion for music, his passion for our tradition and his passion for his favorite city of lights cover a major part of this film. The film has been directed by Goutam Ghose and scripted by Ain Rashid Khan. It was produced in 1997, and has a duration of 90 minutes.
