Bharatnatyam, believe it or not, was once considered somewhat lacking in respectability. It was something the so-called decent society looked down upon. Till one woman saw the beauty of the art form, and decided to show it to the world. Her students, today, come from all over the globe to study in the shade of her legacy - Kalakshetra.
Rukmini Devi's Kalakshetra is well-known for the performers it has groomed in the field of classical Indian arts and crafts. On the birth centenary of its founder, the school is traveling the country and demonstrating with the help of forty of its students, exactly what the institution does differently.
For three days, Kalakshetra, in association with Rasa, a city-based institute of art and culture, will perform a dance festival with the following program schedule:
28th Nov, 1830 - Karna Sapatham
29th Nov, 1830 - Kannapar Kuravanji
30th Nov, 1830 - Jatayu Moksham
