As part of its weekly programs of classical music, Shilparamam is organising a vocal concert of folk songs by Aruna Subbarao and group, this Sunday evening. Aruna, together with Mekala Narayana, Suguna and Nageshwara Rao with vocal support, Ravikumar on the keyboards, Yadgiri on the dholak and Narendra on the dappu, will sing some folk songs of Andhra Pradesh, like Bangaru Vannedana, Dhanelamma Dhanikoppu, Antanna Intannavo, Gangaraju, Kothamasa Vastanani, Bhammaridhi Paata and Evaramma Vivaramu Telvadhu. In between, she will perform a Telugu musical parody, to spread some informative messages.
Aruna is a Limca Book Of Records holder for singing 100 folk songs in 100 minutes. She is a dubbing artiste, writer, singer and a B-High graded artiste of the AIR. She learnt light music from her father A R Raju, in Srikakulam, for 15 years. She started performed burrakathas at the age of 5 itself, doing it for 10 years.
With over 1,000 performances to her credit, Aruna was awarded the Shiromani Award by Delhi Telugu Academy, and various other titles like the Janapada Gana Kokila, Janapada Gana Madhuri, Parody Lady and Shatageeta Sudha Lahari. She has anchored television programs like Sakhi in ETV2, Hasya Tarangam on D D Saptagiri and Paadave Koyila in Vissa.
