Bhairavi Sangeet Academy is organising a Carnatic vocal recital of Mysore Vasudevacharya's compositions by Dr. Radha Venkatachalam, on 20th May, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. Dr. Venkatachalam is a disciple of music genius Professor T R Subramanian, one of the most respected and renowned teachers for countless artistes, young and old. She is faculty at the music department of the Delhi University. Though Dr. Venkatachalam rarely sings at concerts, she conducts various workshops of music on various unknown ragas, at various parts of the country.
Mysore Vasudevacharya is the most widely performed Carnatic music composer of this century. He lived for 96 years between 1865 and 1961, and his compositions, such as Brochevarevarura, Bhajare Manasa and Devadideva Sri Vasudeva, are very popular with performing musicians. He had composed more than 200 kritis in 65 ragas.
Bhairavi Sangeet Academy was established more than 7 years ago by Vizarsu Balasubrahmanyam, a sangeet vidhwan. Balasubrahmanyam is a double Ph. D. - from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj, and from the University Of Delhi. Many of his students have won many prizes at national level music competitions. He has composed a number of Varnams, Krithis, Javalis and Tillanas, besides music for Annamayya keertanas.
