The Hyderabad Film Club is screening a French movie, Demented, at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet, on 24th June. The movie is directed by Laurent Achard and produced by Dominique Barneaud. The cast includes Julien Cochelin, Pascal Cervo, Annie Cordy, Dominique Reymond and Fettouma Bouamari.
Demented is about the break-up of a peasant family, seen through the eyes of an 11-year-old, Martin. The mother lives in her room as a recluse. The older brother drinks heavily. His father, dominated by the grandmother, is a powerless witness to the destruction of his family. The boy, although comforted a little by the Moroccan maid Malika, and the presence of his cat, decides to put an end to the family chaos, but all his attempts to esacpe the tragic destiny of his family fail, and he starts contemplating suicide.
