Hotel Ista is organising Rannaghar, a Bengali food festival, at its specialty Indian restaurant Deori, from 20th to 29th June. Rannaghar means kitchen in Bengali, which is the most important room of a Bengali house. Executive chef Subhrajit Bardhan will supervise the festival.
The fest features a feast of Bengali delicacies perfected over time and passed through generations. A few of the special preparations are Shukto (a dish made of sweet potato, drumstick and eggplant in a light mustard gravy), Cholar Dal Narkel Diye (traditional Bengali chana dal with coconut), Chhanar Dalna (dumplings of homemade cottage cheese in cinnamon scented onion gravy), Doi Rui (slow cooked rohu fish in yoghurt gravy) and Baati Chingri (sweet water prawns tossed with mustard flavored gravy).
The festival is presented as a buffet. There are special Bhoj (vegetarian) and Mahabhoj (non-vegetarian) packages available at the restaurant, ranging from Rs. 1,000 for vegetarian thalis (unlimited wine and beer) to Rs. 1,600 for non-vegetarian thalis (unlimited alcohol) per person.
