The annual Golconda Culture Festival, a grand celebration of music, dance & history organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, is on from 18th to 20th April this year, at the Taramati Baradari Cultural Complex, Gandipet Road, Ibrahimbagh. On the second day today, Dances Of India, a performance of seven classical dances by seven renowned dancers of India, will be the highlight. The dancers are Dr. Alekhya Punjla, Geetha Ganesan, C Gopalakrishnan, Mahua Shankar, Mitali Raul, Panchali Chatterjee and Madhuri Deshmukh.
Dr. Alekhya Punjla
Dr. Punjla is a disciple of Dr. K Uma Rama Rao, and a renowned Kuchipudi dancer. She has performed at the highest level in India and abroad, including at all the prestigious dance festivals of the country like the Haridas Samaroh, Kalidas Samaroh and Kuchipudi Mahotsav, and the Kalakshetra, Siddendra Yogi, Nishagandhi, Khajuraho and Konark dance festivals.
Geetha Ganesan
Geetha Ganesan is a Bharatanatyam dancer and a disciple of V S Ramamurthy and Manjula Ramaswamy. She has toured countries like USA, UAE, Norway, Spain, Portugal and Sri Lanka, and has performed to packed audiences. She is also a good choreographer, having designed several solo and group ballets.
C Gopalakrishnan
Kalamandalam C Gopalakrishnan is a disciple of K Ramanakutty Nair and K Gopi. He is an outstanding Kathakali dancer with immense control over his footwork and expressions. He has performed at many countries all over the world.
Mahua Shankar
Mahua is a disciple of the legendary Kathak dancer Pt. Birju Maharaj, and belongs to the new generation of Kathak performers and teachers. She was born into a family of Kathak dancers, and her father late Pradeep Shankar and mother Rekha Shankar were her first teachers.
Mitali Raul
Mitali, a disciple of Jhelum Paranjpe, is an upcoming Odissi dancer. She has performed at some of the major festivals of India.
Panchali Chatterjee
Panchali is an upcoming Manipuri dancer, and disciple of Vipin Singh and Darshana Jhaveri.
Madhuri Deshmukh
Madhuri is a Mohiniattam dancer and a disciple of Kanak Rele.
