It's Nada Bharathi's week in town, and a celebration of the ultimate musical instrument - the human voice. Today, it's Panduranga Sarma on stage.
Nada Bharathi is organising a Sangeet Sammelan from 4th to 11th December, at Sundarayya Vignana Kendra. Today, the 3rd day, R V Panduranga Sarma of Hyderabad will be presenting a Carnatic vocal recital, along with Pavan Singh on the violin, Vidyasagar on the mridangam and Sridhara Chary on the ghatam.
Panduranga Sarma learnt Carnatic music initially from Mulukutla Sastry, and then from the legendary Puranam Purushottama Sastry. Currently, he is undergoing advanced training from the living legend D K Pattammal.
Sarma has been singing since the last two decades, and follows a sampradaya system of kutcheri. He has performed at various sabhas of the country, winning appreciation from various vidhwans and rasikas. He now works for the Indian Overseas Bank in Hyderabad, and also trains students in Carnatic vocal music.
Nada Bharathi was started in 2000 by a renowned mridangist Yuva Sangeeta Bharathi Paravastu Srinivas Gopalan, who hails from a family of classical musicians. The basic objective of the organisation is to preserve, promote and propogate all forms of classical music, by increasing awareness through regular concerts.
Since its inception, it has conducted more than 500 concerts, concentrating not only on Carnatic music, but also on Hindustani music. The organisation has organised musical concerts of renowned vocalists, violinists, mridangists, flautists and vainikas.
