Teams of 49 universities are competing in town these 2 weeks. And we think the selectors will find a better Indian team in here than the one playing in some African country now.
The Board of Control for Inter-University Tournaments, Department of Physical Education, Osmania University, is organising the South Zone Inter-University Tournament for Men, from 22nd November to 2nd December, at various grounds in the city. A total of 49 university teams will be participating in the knockout format tournament, divided into two groups.
Group A has Osmania University, Vellore Institute of Technology, Dr. Ambedkar University (Tamil Nadu), NIT (Calicut), SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Periyar University (Salem), Mangalore University, Pondichery University, Bharatiyar University, Kannunur University, Madurai Kamaraj, Gandhigram Rural University, University of Kerala, NTR Health University, Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam), Satyabhama University, Annamalai University, Tumkur University, SVI Medical Sciences, IIIT (Hyderabad), Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Manomanian Sundarnar, Bharatidasan (Tiruchurapalli), Kuvempu University and Mysore University.
The matches in this group will be played at the OU grounds, the Nizam College grounds and Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.
Group B has Bangalore University, JNTU (Hyderabad), Shanmugha Arts & Science Tech (Sastra), Tamilnadu Veternary & AS, Acharya NG Ranga, Karnataka University (Dharwad), Kakatiya University, University of Hyderabad, Anna University (Chennai), Cochin University of Science & Technology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Andhra University, VT University (Belgaum), University of Agriculture & Sciences, Alagappa University (Karaikudi), Sri Venkateswara University, Manipal University, Acharya Nagarjuna, University of Calicut, Sri Krishna Devaraya, NIT (Warangal), Gulbarga University, Kerala Agriculture University, and Madras University.
The matches in this group will be played at the Osmania University Campus, the PG College at Secunderabad, the Nizam College, and Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.
Last year's winner Madras University, runner-up Osmania University, and losing semi-finalists Bangalore University and Mysore University, get a bye and a direct entry to the quarter-finals. The matches will start at 9:00AM everyday, and will consist of 50 overs a side.
