The Secunderabad Club is organising 1-day carroms and chess championships on 18th May, at the club's indoor hall in Picket. There are three categories in chess - Under-16 years boys and girls and Above-16 years boys - and four categories in carroms - Under-16 & Above-16 years boys and girls.
Chess boards and pawns are to be brought by the participants themselves. The games will be played in the Swiss league method, and the top three winners will be announced at the end of the day. In the case of carroms, the board and coins will be provided by the organisers. There will be no doubles matches. Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners.
The Secunderabad Club is one of five oldest clubs of India, established in 1878. The club has excellent recreational facilities including indoor and outdoor sports such as squash, table tennis, carroms, chess, cricket, badminton, tennis and a jogging track. It also has a mini supermarket, advanced gym, petrol bunk, restaurants and cottages. Membership to the club is exclusive and difficult to obtain, with waiting periods going up to 15 years.
