These guys always have some laugh lines ready for us. And soon we have the laugh lines on our faces. They are called doggerels (a dirge poet with a great complex must have coined this term). And when their patron saint's birthday is celebrated, the doggerels are going to have a day. And so are we.
Vamsee Vignana Peetham, a cultural organization, has been organizing the Rayaprolu Vamsee Ratna Sahiti Awards for four years as part of the birthday celebrations of the famous writer-cum-poet of Telugu literature, the late Rayaprolu Subba Rao. This event, which is usually held on the 13th of March, has been postponed to the 15th of this month this year.
The program will start with a musical concert in which Vamsee Sriyan, son of Vamsee Ramaraju, the founder of Vamsee Vignana Peetham, along with other singers, will present a 45-minute rendition of the compositions of Rayaprolu Subba Rao. A felicitation of the famous writer and 'Kavi Kaustuba' titleholder Acharya Tirumala will follow this program, in which he will be also be given a cash award of Rs. 10,000.
This will be followed by the highlight of the show, the Kavi Sammelan program, wherein a few renowned doggerels are expected to participate and enthrall the audience with their poetic skill. They are Utpala Satyanarayana Charya, Dr Potukuchi Sambasiva Rao, Dr Mangalagiri Pramila Devi, Dr G V Subramanyam, Dr J Bapu Reddy, Dr V Malakonda Reddy, Dr B N Reddy, Dr M Bharathi, Dr Sharat Jyotsna Rani and Smt K B Laxmi.
Dr C Narayana Reddy and P Madhusudhan, Deputy Director of DDK, will be the chief guests, and Mandali Krishna will preside.
