Which of us can truly say that they never enjoyed skits during college days, either as participants or, for the less adventurous, as the audience? And when that old favorite comes back to you and, this time, bringing in big money in tow as prizes - it does amount to something to watch out for.
Established in the 1960s, the BHEL International Club has been hosting a number of cultural events for its members. The membership is restricted to BHEL employees, and only officers and members of the management are allowed.
But not for this 7-day nationwide humorous playlet contest in Telugu and Hindi being organized by the club for children. And for those who have never been a part of either a skit or a playlet, the conceptual change here is that, unlike for a play, the time given is less than an hour.
In this contest, 'humor' will be the primary judging criteria, going by which 12 skits will be selected for the final staging. We will have 3-4 playlets both in Hindi and Telugu staged everyday at the venue.
The winner for the first prize will walk away with a cool Rs 8,000, and the second and the third rankers will get Rs 7,000 and Rs 6,000, respectively. Apart from this, individual awards will be given to the best actor, the best actress, the best script, the best child artist, the best director and the best stage decoration.
Interested candidates may apply with an entry fee of Rs 200, and the application forms can be obtained from the organizers. The selected play-lets will be paid a subsidy of Rs 2,500 for outstation participants, and Rs 2,000 to those from within the twin cities.
