Aakruthi, a cultural association, is celebrating its 17th anniversary, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, on 26th July. On this occasion, in memory of late Pentamaraju Susheela and Ranga Rao, awards will be given to four eminent personalities in their respective fields, as below:
Light Music - Rao Bala Saraswati Devi, the first Telugu playback singer
Literature - Dr. Tripuraneni Maharathi, novelist
Social Service - Malladi Subbamma, social worker
Medicine - Dr. Dharma Rakshak, city cardiologist
On this occasion, cine melodies will be sung by Chandrateja, Amani, Sudharani and Subash. The function will be inaugurated by yesteryear cine actress Jamuna, and the chief guest for the evening is Gnanpeeth awardee, Padmabhushan Dr C Narayana Reddy. C Subhan Reddy, chairman of Naveen Educational Institutions; T L Kanta Rao, actor; and Uppuluri Mallikarjuna Sarma, Secretary of Ravindra Bharathi will be the other guests.
Aakruthi was started in 1990 by Sudhakar, in memory of his parents late Pentamaraju Susheela and Ranga Rao. Since then, Sudhakar has been staging many cultural programs every year. An award instituted in the name of his late parents was started in 2004, as per his parents' wish, and every year three personalities in the field of music, literature, social service and medicine are conferred upon the awards.
