On the occasion of the All-India Crafts Mela from 15th to 31st December, Shilparamam is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital by Dr. Alekhya Punjla and group, on 23rd December. Alekhya, along with her disciples Snehalatha, Sumalatha, Sandhya and Swathi, will present some traditional numbers from the Kuchipudi repertoire, such as an invitation to three goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati, two Annamacharya keertanas Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha and Govinda Govinda, and Oothukudu Venkata Kavi's Atine Roopama which involves excellent coordination of footwork.
The orchestra for the recital will be provided by Seetarama Sastry and Chandra Rao with the nattuvangam and vocal respectively, R Vinod Kumar on the mridangam, Pavan Kumar on the violin and Murali on the flute. The dance items are choreographed by Alekhya.
Alekhya learnt dance at a young age under the tutelage of late Dayal Sharan, and later continued under Dr. Uma Rama Rao. She has performed at the highest level in India and abroad, including at all the prestigious dance festivals of the country like the Haridas Samaroh, Kalidas Samaroh, Kuchipudi Mahotsav, Kalakshetra, Siddendra Yogi, Nishagandhi, Khajuraho and Konark dance festivals. She choreographed and brought to life several dance ballets of Alamelu Manga, Gouri, Parvathi, Rukmini, Satyabhama, Thilla Kali, Mandakini Durga, Sashirekha, Andal, Draupadi and Radha.
