Banyan Tree Events is organising the annual Barkha Ritu classical music concerts all over the country with music stalwarts like Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Pt. Channulal Mishra and Pt. Bhavani Shankar performing at various venues. In Hyderabad, the concert will be held at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium on 13th July, where Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande are performing.
The second and the last concert today is a Hindustani vocal recital by Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande, with instrumental support by Pt. Bhavani Shankar on the pakhawaj and Vijay Ghate on the tabla. Pandit Satyasheel Deshpande, born in 1951, grew up in the company of the old masters of Indian Classical music because of his famous father Late Wamanrao Deshpande's close association with a large number of them. This gave young Satyasheel an opportunity of imbibing the special characters of all the gharanas.
However, his principal guru and focus in life came to be the legendary Late Pt. Kumar Gandharva who showered Satyasheel lavishly with his style, technique and bandishes through many years of tutelage. A naturally gifted and instinctively creative artist by temperament, Satyasheel is as much an individualist as he is a thorough explorer of the tradition within which he works.
He is widely known for the stunning spontaneous imagination he demonstrates in performance, for his innate sense of composition and improvisation, and for the immense scope and depth of his musicological research. Throughout his career, Satyasheel has been performing in major musical events in India as well as abroad.
For the last 25 years, Satyasheel has devoted his attention to discovering, collecting, reviving and archiving lost, rare and old classical music for future generations to hear and enjoy. This project, called Samvaad Foundation, is partly funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation. Through the journey of this project, he has acquired a great knowledge base and skill to do lecture-demos on a variety of themes.
