Kalahita Art Foundation, together with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, is presenting an exhibition of paintings titled Freedom Is Not Free, from 4th to 14th February. The exhibition has on display 60 works showcasing stylistic treatment and expression, by Kandru Sivakesava Rao.
Kesav's works displayed in this exhibition titled "Freedom Is Not Free" are executed with freedom but are not free of experiences. Though the works are abstract in nature, they have multiple narratives. The word abstract would not seem as abstract if one takes into account that experiences are expressed as experiences in Kesav's works. His involvement with natural dyes influences his colour palette.
Space, depth and volume have formed the rudiments of all his works. This reflects a strong academic observance that is congenial to creativity for the sake of creativity. It does take the viewer through an experience of visuals speeding past, slowing down and resting briefly.
Kandru Sivakesava Rao, born on 22nd June 1954 in Guntur, grew up in Peddivaripalem. He came to Hyderabad to study art at JNTU in 1974. He went to Baroda for a post-graduate diploma in graphics in 1980. Other than painting and print-making, Kesav is a specialist in natural dyeing and hand-block printing. He is the founder-trustee of the Creative Bee Foundation. His first solo exhibition was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in January 2005.
