The Shrishti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of figurative paintings by senior artist from Kolkata Dhiraj Choudhury, from 7th to 20th February. The series contains about 50 paintings and drawings in water colors, acrylics, dry pastels and charcoal. The works are mostly on women, with some on men with their pets, and amidst nature.
Dhiraj Choudhury was born on 1936 in then East Bengal (now Bangladesh). He was a student of the Government College, Darjeeling, and the Principal of the college Dr. K D Ghosh encouraged him to follow his dreams to become an artist. Later he joined the College Of Arts And Crafts, Calcutta, and the Delhi Polytechnic (Delhi College Of Art).
He has taught art from 1962 to 1996 in the Women's Polytechnic and the Department of Painting, Delhi College of Art, University of Delhi. He was a member of Artists Forum, Society of Contemporary Artists, AIFACS, New Delhi.
Choudhury has more than 100 solo exhibitions, of which 16 are international - UK, USA, France, Germany, Switzerland and Singapore are some of the countries where his foreign shows were arranged.
