He started at Ongole and is now at ...well, Ongole. The path has, however, been breathtaking.
Gallery Space is organising an exhibition of paintings by Dr Machiraju Ramachandra Rao, from 20th to 30th November. Dr Rao will be displaying 41 of his latest works, done with acrylic on canvas and paper. They are free abstracts in different forms, influenced by music, literature and the surroundings.
WIth Dr Machiraju being an ardent lover of music and literature, especially the deep poems of Sri Sri, his paintings reflect this theme, with Behind The Trees, The Depths, Swift, Revolt, Into The Distance, Vyavasthita, and Magnificent Obsession being examples.
Dr Machiraju is a self-taught artist, born in Ongole. He studied MBBS and PG in Pathology from Rangaraya's Medical College, Kakinada. He has attended many nationwide camps, and conducted solo art exhibitions at Hyderabad, Vizag and Chennai, besides participating in various group shows in Delhi and Pondicherry.
His love for literature is immense. He presented a paper on Current Trends In Literature With Special Reference To Telugu Literature, at Lakshadweep in 1991. He won various prizes during his academic years at the Andhra Univesity in Visakhapatnam. In 1998, he was invited to England where he conducted solo art exhibitions in Manchester, Chestershire, Wales and Liverpool.
He presented a portrait of Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi, which was appreciated by the then prime minister. He established PICASSO (Priya Indian Cultural And Socio-Scientific Organisation), which encourages people of various ages by conducting painting competitions every year in the district. He practices his medical profession, and also spares time for his art everyday, painting his imaginations at his studio in Ongole.
