Shrishti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of ceramic pottery by Brahmdeo Ram Pandit and his son Abhay Pandit, from 4th to 8th November. A collection of more than 150 items is on display. There are many shapes and sizes here, but most of them are shaped as narrow-mouthed pots for flower vases and decorative items.
Brahmdeo is a 58-year-old senior potter who has studied village pottery from Belgaum, pottery craft from the Handicrafts Teacher Training College in Mumbai, and sculpture and modeling from the J J College of Art in Mumbai and the Lalit Kala Academy in New Delhi, for 11 years.
He has participated in various solo and group exhibitions, and workshops all over the country. He was awarded the merit certificate by the J J College of Arts, the Maharashtra State Award in 1978, 89 & 91, the first and second prizes in pottery by the All-India Fine Arts And Crafts Society during 1988 and 1997 respectively, and the Pratibha Samman in Pune.
Abhay has studied pottery at the J J Institute of Applied Arts in Mumbai, the Golden Bridge Pottery course under Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith in Pondicherry, and ceramics under Peter Beard in England.
He has been part of various solo shows and also group shows with his father Brahmdeo Pandit. He has conducted many workshops, and is a recipient of appreciation awards from the J J Institute of Applied Arts for two years.
