Hasta Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of abstract paintings by Sridhar Rao Kulkarni, from 4th to 14th November. Titled Time, Space And Silence, the exhibition contains about 30 paintings, and is a series of geometric abstractions. These paintings are spiritual and are about Adhyatma - a dialogue between time and space in search of silence.
Born in a small village called Cheekalaparvi in the Raichur district of Karnataka, Sridhar, a self-taught artist, was brought up in the spiritual ambience of Dasa Sahitya and Sharana Sahitya. Growing up with this literature, he developed an interest in Adhyatma, an art of meditation, which became the content for his current set of paintings.
He acquired a sense for form and geometry watching his mother making rangoli every morning. His feelings were given shape in color and application by his maternal uncle Late Vasudeva Rao Kaptral, an accomplished teacher and former Principal of the College of Fine Arts, JNTU Hyderabad.
This is Sridhar's first solo exhibition, and he has been part of two group shows at the Lakshana Art Gallery during 1999 & 2002, Daira Art Gallery in 2005, and other shows in New Delhi and Mumbai. He had his mural paintings commissioned at ICRISAT in Hyderabad and at Intervet India Pvt. Limited in Pune.
