The Andhra Music Academy is organising its 7th Annual Music & Dance Festival from 24th to 29th January. The 6-day festival has some of best music vidhwans and talented artistes among the present and past generation performing, notably O S Thiyagarajan, Dr Yella Venkateshwara Rao, Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma, Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, Dwaram Durga Prasad and Satyanarayana Rao, the Hyderabad Brothers, Poosarla Manorama, Geeta Krishnamurthy, U Nagamani, Emani Lalithakrishna and Kumar Mardur.
Today, the 2nd day, the famed Hyderabad Brothers will entertain the music rasikas of town with their vocal duet. The Hyderabad Brothers, D Seshachari & D Raghavachari, hail from Hyderabad. Born in a family of musicians, they received their initial training under the guidance of their father Sangeeta Sahitya Vidwan Daroor Ratnamacharyulu and mother Sulochana Devi. They perfected their training under Late Susarla Sivaram at the Government College of Music in Hyderabad.
Their style of singing resembles that of the great Alathur Brothers, and singing together, the duo have always held the fascination of Carnatic music lovers. Seshachari is a staff artiste with AIR, Hyderabad, and is also an accomplished mridangam player, while Raghavachari works at the National Mineral Development Corporation.
Seshachari is the younger of the siblings, and is more of an extrovert, while Raghavachari is content playing the quieter role. The Hyderabad brothers have performed in all major institutions, festivals & sabhas in India. They have also performed at the Madras Music Academy, the Krishna Gana Sabha, the Mylapore Fine Arts Club, the Indian Fine Arts Society, and other sabhas of repute. They have also given innumerable concerts for AIR & Doordarshan.
In addition, they have released several commercial recordings of cassettes & CDs, and have performed extensively in India & North America. During the initial stages of their career, the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi of Hyderabad awarded them the Best Young Talent award in 1977 & 1978. After that, a lot many awards and honors followed. In 1992, they were nominated as the Asthana Vidwans of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.
The Andhra Music Academy was formed in the year 2001 particularly to sponsor, support and patronise music. For this endeavor, the academy has roped in some very eminent musicians into its advisory panel, including Dr Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Dr Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana and Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. The academy organises and conducts various music festivals every year and also plans to organise these every month.
Every year, the prestigious awards of Sangeeta Vidyanidhi and Natya Vidyanidhi are conferred upon music and dancing legends. Dr Balamurali Krishna, Nedunuri, Nookala, M S Gopalakrishna, Annavarapu Ramaswamy, Pt Jasraj and Puranam Purushottama Sastry received the Sangeeta Vidyanidhi, while Vempati Chinna Satyam, Nataraja Ramakrishna and Vendantam Satyanarayana Sarma were the Natya Vidyanidhi awardees during the previous festivals. This year, Dr Padma Subrahmanyam will be awarded the Natya Vidyanidhi, and Malini Rajurkar (a Hindustani vocalist) and V Kamalakara Rao (a mridangam player), the Sangeeta Vidyanidhi.
