What would you do if you had 100 CDs and cassettes, and half-a-dozen titles and awards to your credit? Yes, it's hard to imagine such success. Here's a chance to see Nithyasree Mahadevan in person tonite.
Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society is organising the 8th Annual Festival & Aradhana of Satguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy at Keyes High School For Girls, from 24th to 28th January. Some of the best artistes of Carnatic music will be performing at the 5-day festival, including O S Thiyagarajan, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Sanjay Subramanyam, S Sashank, Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, Peri Thyagaraju, and many young and upcoming artistes.
Today, the 2nd day, renowned Carnatic vocalist from Chennai, Nithyasree Mahadevan, will be performing. Mahadevan is the granddaughter of the legendary D K Pattamal and mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer. She initially trained under her mother Lalitha Sivakumar, and later on with D K Pattamal. She has been performing since 1987, and is currently an A-grade artiste of the AIR. She has received many awards, notably Yuva Kala Bharathi, Sangeetha Sikhamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Nadabhushanam and Kalaimamani.
With a rich voice and a wide repertoire, Mahadevan is one of the most sought-after and the top-ranking artistes of the country, having performed at all major sabhas in India and also toured USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Geneva, Dubai, Qatar and Abu Dhabi for concerts. She has rendered her voice to various movies and TV serials, apart from more than 100 CDs and cassettes.
Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society was founded in 2000, with the objective of imparting and spreading Carnatic vocal music to music lovers of all ages. It was established by S Chandrasekhar, a renowned vocalist, who has a diploma in Carnatic vocal. He teaches about 50 students, both young and old. Every Sunday, he also teaches Annamacharya Keertanas from 3pm to 5pm, free of cost to anyone eager to learn. The society also organises various music concerts of local upcoming and established artistes, and renowned classical musicians from Chennai.
