Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society is organising the 8th Annual Festival & Aradhana of Satguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy at the Keyes High School For Girls, from 6th to 10th February. The 5-day festival will see some of the best artistes of Carnatic music perform, including Sikkil Sisters, Mala Chandrasekhar, Priya Sisters, Malladi Brothers, U Srinivas, Dr. Tadepally Lokanadha Sarma and many young and upcoming artistes.
Dr. Tadepally Lokanadha Sarma will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital today, the last day of the festival. He will be assisted by Ramaraju Dinakar on the violin and Aravind on the mridangam.
Born on 8th June, 1945, Lokanadha Sarma hails from a family of musicians from Tenali. He was initiated into music by his revered father T V Subrahmanya Sastry, a renowned vocalist. He completed his music diploma from the Madras University, and Sangita Vidwan course from the Central College of Carnatic Music, Madras.
After finishing BA in Music in 1967 and MA in Music in 1969, from the S V University, Tirupati, Sarma was awarded a PhD by the Mysore University, for his research work in "A Study Of Musical Instrumentation With Particular Reference To Sanskrit Musical Literature".
Lokanadha Sarma had the privilege of receiving training from stalwarts like Musiri Subramania Iyer and Chittoor Subramania Pillai. He is an A-grade artist of the All-India Radio. With deep roots in classical music, Sarma has an amazing capacity to imbibe other musical forms, including folk songs of different regions. In the course of three and half decades, he has presented numerous classical concerts in almost all the important cities and towns in India.
Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society was founded in 2000, with the objective of imparting and spreading Carnatic vocal music to music lovers of all ages. It was established by S Chandrasekhar, a renowned vocalist, who has a diploma in Carnatic vocal and teaches about 50 students, both young and old. Every Sunday, he also teaches Annamacharya Keertanas from 3pm to 5pm, free of cost to anyone eager to learn. The society also organises various music concerts of local upcoming and established artistes, and renowned classical musicians from Chennai.
