The Kalakriti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of water colors on paper paintings by A Rajeshwara Rao, from 1st to 10th February. The show has been titled "Ah! Intemperance", and has about 25 paintings on display.
As the title suggests, it is a poking of fun on the lavish lifestyles of the rich. Rajeshwara Rao is notorious for such types of work, and his previous exhibition during November 2006 was on the lifestyle of city suburban farmers who became rich overnight by selling their lands to realtors. In this series, his works show rich women in their cozy bathrooms, in bikinis, in massage parlors and in short dresses, with bright lipsticks and hairstyles, showing off their costly electronic gadgets.
Rajeshwar Rao was born in Vijayanagaram, and has a BFA from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and MFA from Central University, Hyderabad. He is a senior artist, and has exhibited his art all over the country since 1981. He has had solo exhibitions in some of the best art galleries in the country like Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai and Bangalore; Gallery Golden Threshold, Hyderabad; and Gallery Espace, New Delhi, in addition to being part of various group shows in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
Awards from Mahakoshal Kala Parishad, MP, and Camlin Art Foundation, Bangalore, and the National Scholarship and Junior Fellowship from the Government of India, are some of his achievements in recognition for his works.
