Bharatha Natyalaya Dance Academy is presenting a dance ballet on Saint Annamacharya, at Sundarayya Vignana Kendra, on 20th April. Disciples of Chitra Narayanan - Krishna Priya, Madhavi Sharma, Snigda, Sahiti, Pallavi, Preeti and Manju - will perform this ballet.
The ballet is about the life history of Saint Annamacharya. The orchestra for the recital is by Sirisha and Srinivas on the vocals, Renuka Prasad on the mridangam, Sridharacharya on special effects and Sai Kumar on the violin.
Bharatha Natyalaya was established in 1947 at Chennai, by Chitra Narayanan's mother and guru Rukmini Srinivasan. The academy has two branches, one in Chennai and the other in Hyderabad, with about 100 students learning Bharatanatyam. The academy has given various programs in India and also in the US, but mostly in South India. Chitra Narayanan has received various awards, too - the Durgabai Deshmukh Award and Natyakala Saraswati, to name a couple.
