8th Annual Music & Dance Festival Of AMA

8th Annual Music & Dance Festival Of AMA is an event that took place between 01-Feb-2008 and 07-Feb-2008 in Hyderabad.

The Andhra Music Academy is organising its 8th Annual Music & Dance Festival from 1st to 7th February, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. The week-long festival has some of best music vidhwans and most talented artistes of the current and the past generations performing, notably violinists Dwaram Mangatayaru and Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao, Bharatanatyam dancers Rajeshwari Sainath and Leela Samson, Carnatic vocalists Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Nityasree Mahadaven and the Malladi Brothers, and Hindustani vocalists Jayateerth Mevundi and Sangeetha Kulkarni.

In addition to the music performances, lectures and demonstrations will be held. The detailed list of events at the festival is as under:

1st February
5:00pm - Nadaswaram by M Venugopal & party
6:00pm - Inauguration of the festival - lighting of lamp by Sadguru K Sivananda Murty; felicitation ceremony by conferring of Sangeeta Vidyanidhi upon Prof. R Visweswaran (renowned veena vidhwan of Mysore) and Natya Vidyanidhi on Padmasri and Padmabhushan Dr. Yamini Krishnamurti (the living legend of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi), by the chief guest Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Governor of Andhra Pradesh
7:30pm - Violin recital by Dwaram Mangatayaru and Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao

2nd February
6:00pm - Hindustani Vocal by Jayateerth Mevundi from Hubli
8:00pm - Kuchipudi dance recital by Bala Tripura Sundari from Chennai

3rd February
9:30am - Lec-dem by Carnatic vocalist Mahamahopadhyaya and Sangita Vidyanidhi Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana
11:00am - Lec-dem by Bharatanatyam dancer Nritya Choodamani Rajeshwari Sainath
6:00pm - Veena recital by R Madhuri from Vizag
7:30pm - Carnatic vocal by Sanjay Subrahmanyam from Chennai

4th February
6:00pm - Carnatic vocal by V L Tulasi Viswanath
7:30pm - Rukmini Kalyanam, Bharatanatyam dance ballet by Leela Samson and party from Chennai

5th February
6:00pm - Carnatic whistle concert by K Sivaprasad from Hyderabad
7:30pm - Carnatic vocal by Nityasree Mahadevan from Chennai

6th February
6:00pm - Carnatic flute recital by V Nagaraju
7:30pm - Carnatic vocal duet by Malladi Brothers from Vijayawada

7th February
6:00pm - Valedictory function
6:30pm - Carnatic vocal by Revati Ratnaswamy
7:30pm - Hindustani Vocal by Sangeetha Kulkarni

The Andhra Music Academy was formed in 2001 to particularly sponsor, support and patronise music. In this endeavor, the academy has roped in some eminent musicians into its advisory panel, like Dr. Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana and Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. The academy organises and conducts various music festivals every year, and plans to soon organise these every month.

Every year, the prestigious awards of Sangeeta Vidyanidhi and Natya Vidyanidhi are conferred upon music and dancing legends. Dr. Balamurali Krishna, Nedunuri, Nookala, M S Gopalakrishna, Annavarapu Ramaswamy, Pt Jasraj and Puranam Purushottama Sastry received the Sangeeta Vidyanidhi, while Vempati Chinna Satyam, Nataraja Ramakrishna and Vendantam Satyanarayana Sarma were the Natya Vidyanidhi awardees during the previous festivals.
