The Kathak Kala Kshetra, in association with the Department of Culture, is organising The Deccan Dance Festival from 6th to 8th March, at the Ravindra Bharathi. The 3-day festival will feature some of the best classical dancers of the country, like Sushmita Chatterjee, Bimbavati Devi, Pallavi Krishnan, Meenakshi Chitranjan, Dr Sobha Naidu and Sujata Mahapatra, sharing the stage. The detailed program schedule is as follows:
6th March
06:00pm - Inauguration by K V Ramana, IAS, Secretary to Government Department of Education. Chief Guest is Padmabhushan Dr Varaprasada Reddy, CMD, Shantha Bio-Technics Limited.
06:30pm - Kathak dance recital by Sushmitha Chatterjee from Kolkata
08:00pm - Manipuri dance recital by Bimbavati Devi from Manipur
7th March
Chief Guest is Dr Rallabandi Kavithaprasad, Director, Department of Culture. Guests of Honor are Pasumarthi Uday Bhaskar, State Head & GM of Indian Oil Corporation; and Mallikarjunappa, Trustee of Srisailam Trust Board.
06:30pm - Bharatanatyam dance recital by Nritya Choodamani and Kalaimamani Meenakshi Chittaranjan from Chennai
08:00pm - Mohiniattam dance recital by Pallavi Krishnan from Kerala
8th March
Chief Guest is Padmabhushan Dr C Narayana Reddy. Guest of Honour is Padmasri Dr Nataraja Ramakrishna.
06:30pm - Kuchipudi dance recital by Nritya Choodamani Dr Sobha Naidu from Hyderabad
08:00pm - Odissi dance recital by Sujatha Mahapatra from Bhubaneshwar
Kathak Kala Kshetra was started by Pandit Anju Babu, a Kathak dancer, choreographer and percussionist, in 1980. He himself was a popular dancer, having performed in countries like USA, France, England and Japan. Pandit Babu teaches many students in this institute, and has even conducted international training programs with Anjali Papa, Director of the Anjali Centre of Houston, where he trained many Indian and American children in Kathak.
