Sculpture, figurative paintings, landscapes and nudes. Oh, at least one of them should interest you.
A group show of paintings by Maruthi Paila, B Bhaskar Rao and Sadhu Surya Rao, and sculpture by S Kantha Reddy, is on at the Chitramayee, State Gallery of Fine Arts, from 1st of March. Themed Nature Bound, the series contains 35 paintings and four items of sculpture. It is unclear why it has been named after nature, because with the exception of those of Bhaskara Rao, the works of the artists appear to have little to do with nature.
Kantha Reddy has chosen to portray lemons, chillies, bitter gourd (karela) and sugarcane as four different characteristics of human nature in one of his works; the theme of the Bhagawad Gita with a mirror in another; fibre glass sculpture made with a seven-seater auto tyre reflecting his past as a driver in the third; and metal skeletal boxes joined to form a high building in the fourth. Surya Rao's works are based on figurative paintings, and Maruthi has nude figures of chosen women. Bhaskara Rao has chosen landscapes for his works.
