At an age when most kids are still playing and having fun, here are some who are doing just that. Only, they're doing it better and better.
The All-India Tennis Federation is organising All India Under-12 and Under-14 Tennis Tournament from 5th to 9th March. As many as 24 players in the Under-12 boys and 19 players in the Under-12 girls, and 32 players in the Under-14 boys and 32 players in the Under-14 girls categories, from all over the country are participating in this national ranking tournament.
Competitions will be held in singles and doubles for all the age categories in a knock-out format. 22 players each in the Under-14 boys and girls categories gained direct entry on the basis of their national rankings. The remaining 10 players will fight it out in the qualification matches that will be played on the 3rd and 4th of March. All the 24 players in the boys and 19 players in the girls Under-12 categories have been drafted into the main draw based on their rankings. There are no qualification rounds here.
N Sai Kartik and V K C Vishesh, both from Andhra Pradesh, have been seeded top in Under-12 boys and girls respectively, while Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu and Bhavana Suresh of Andhra Pradesh are the top seeds in the Under-14 boys and girls categories respectively.
Matches in the Under-12 category will be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm everyday, and matches in Under-14 category will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm everyday, on five synthetic court surfaces of the Lal Bahadur Stadium Tennis Complex. All the matches will be in the best-of-three tie-break sets, with no advantage scoring system.
