Saahiti, the literary wing of Saptaparini, is organizing a cultural program called Tarangam on 21st June. Tarangam is one of the dance forms of Bharatnatyam. This evening, the program is a lecdem on renowned composer Narayana Teertha's beautiful compositions, and will be by J S Eswara Prasad Rao & troupe. The orchestra supporting Eswara Prasad will consist of Chidrupi & G S Sriram on the vocals, K Rajagopalachary on the mridangam, K V Subba Rao on the harmonium, C Jairam on the tabla, and a chorus which includes J S Parmesh, Sairam & Chakravarty.
Eswara Prasad will be performing Krishna Leela Tarangini with some padyams from Pothana's Srimath Bhagavatam. Prasad is a disciple of Dr. Shobha Naidu and follows the style of Vempati Chinnasatyam. But in spite of this, the lecdem this evening will be performed in the Bhagavatha Paddathi style called Nritya Sankeerntana Sampradayam. Prasad has toured many places and given concerts in many countries including UK & Dubai.
Narayana Teertha was a 16th century saint poet from the village of Kaja, Mangalagiri district, Andhra Pradesh. He took sainthood at a very young age at Vedadiri, and after traversing A P, he went to Tanjavur. There he composed Krishna Leela Tarangini, a 12-part composition, which starts with the birth of Lord Krishna and goes on till his marriage to Rukmini. Narayana Teertha's samadhi is at Tirupandruthi.
