Kalasagaram is organizing a Carnatic vocal concert on 21st June at the Keyes High School For Girls, Secunderabad, from 6:30pm, as part of its Twin Carnatic Vocal Music programs, the other program of which will be held at the same venue on 22nd June. Usha Padmanabhan will be performing on 21st June, and G Sivakami on 22nd June.
This evening, vocalist Usha Padmanabhan will be accompanied by R Dinakar on the violin & G Ramachandran on the mridangam. Padmanabhan had her music training under Nanganallur V Ramanathan and also from Sangita Kala Acharya Late T Mukta. She is currently undertaking advanced training from Sangeetha Kalanidhi R Vedavalli. She obtained her masters degree in music from the University of Madras in 1989, for which she was awarded a scholarship by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
She has won numerous prizes in music competitions conducted by various Sabhas in Chennai, including the one by the All-India Radio. She is an A-grade artist in AIR, Chennai, and has composed music for several dance ballets as also for Kulasekhara Alwar's pasurams, and released a CD of the same in 2004. She has given several performances at various places and in several sabhas in Chennai, including Krishna Gana Sabha, Bharat Kalachar & Kartik Fine Arts.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are usually held in the open-air theater of the Keyes High School campus. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
