Henry Ford wasn't totally off the track when he said that you could have a car of any color as long as it was black. Assembly lines are always cheaper, but you save due to the uniformity. Variety is simpler manmade - or womanmade, as in this case. But since it comes at a price, you'd wonder how much they sell. Well, they have the government sponsoring them, so that's good news for them as well as for you - for, everything you buy, some of the cost is being borne by someone else. And hence, here's a variety of handmade art for your home at reasonable prices.
'Swayambhari Nari' (self reliant women) is a handicraft organization for women that is based at Delhi, and provides self-employment for women. This organization receives sponsorship from the Delhi government to host exhibitions at various state capitals to display the products of its artisans and help sell them.
The organization has been holding handicraft exhibitions for the last 12 years, and as a part of its regular touring, is hosting an exhibition at the YMCA (Secunderabad). Most of the items here will be from West Bengal, and some will be from Delhi. Some of the items that will be on display are jute products, jewelry, bandwood items, paper items, Kanthawath embroidery material, flowers and chappals made of jute, plain and embroidery suites, Kolkata saris (Tangail style), Madhubani paintings of Bihar and dolls. The price range of these items is Rs. 10 to Rs. 3,000.
